This petition is to improve safety for Parklands Apartments residents accessing/leaving the Transit Centre between the hours of 8pm and 6am when the Parklands entrance is closed, forcing residents to make a longer more dangerous walk around the Transit Centre. This long held safety concern has come to light following the recent tragic murder of Parklands Apartments resident Eunji Ban.
Your petitioners therefore request 24-hour access to and from the Transit Centre for Parklands Apartments residents through the support of Brisbane City Council and Translink. It is also in support of the letter entitled "Letter to the Mayor Re: Community Safety Issues" on 17 December 2013.
The matters raised in your petitions have been investigated and considered by Council at its meeting held on 4 March 2014. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the information below.
The residents at Roma Street Parklands do have direct and open access from the parklands to the entry gate at the rear of Roma Street Station. This gate, however, is part of the Roma Street Station and is under the control of Queensland Rail. Queensland Rail currently closes this entry gate to the station every night between the hours of 8pm and 5am.
It is therefore recommended that the petitioners contact Queensland Rail, which controls the access to Roma Street Station via the entry gate to platform 10, with their request.
Could you please let the other petitioners know of this information.
