SUBMITTED ON BEHALF OF HEAD PETITIONER: Pam Verney This petition is to register support to formally name the pathway along the edge of the water from Cliff Street through to Lower Moora Park “Lover’s Walk”. The Sandgate and District Historical Society, supported by Deagon Ward Councillor Victoria Newton, has submitted this name to the Brisbane City Council. According to research by Ray Robinson supplied to the Brisbane City Council by the Sandgate and District’s Historical Society and Museum, the walk which runs along the foreshore from Cabbage Tree Creek to the Baptist Church was called Dover’s Walk after a Sandgate Town Council Engineer. Some time between 1910 and 1920 an English company came out to take photos around Brisbane – including Dover’s Walk. According to legend, the young blokes in the firm covered part of the “D” up to make it an “L” as a joke, and the cards came out from England as “Lover’s Walk”. The name “Lover’s Walk” remains to this day. However there is no formal signage to formally identify the name of this pathway as “Lover’s Walk”.
Therefore we call on the Brisbane City Council to support the submission to formally name the foreshore pathway from Cliff Street Sandgate through to Lower Moora Park Shorncliffe “Lover’s Walk”.
