Residents draw to the attention of the Lord Mayor and Brisbane City Council that the Wynnum Road Upgrade must incorporate an integrated car, public transport, pedestrian and cycle solution. An integrated solution will help reduce congestion for all commuters, regardless of their mode of transport. It will also help to reduce the number of conflicts between motorists, cyclists and pedestrians along Wynnum Road.
Petitioners request the Lord Mayor amend the current design for the Wynnum Road Upgrade so that it includes:
1) High quality separated bike and pedestrian pathways
2) Public Transport or High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes where possible to enable faster public transport options from our suburbs to and from the city during peak hour
3) Duplication of Canning Bridge - which remains four lanes under the current plan while the road upgrade expands to six, meaning the bottle neck is not fixed, just shifted to another location.
Your petition has been investigated and it was considered by Council at its meeting held on 14 June 2016. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the information below.
Council intends to proceed with the current Wynnum Road Corridor Upgrade – stage 1 project scope and detailed design which includes separated bike and pedestrian pathways.
