Residents draw to the attention of the Lord Mayor that they oppose the Jan Power Farmers Markets being allowed to operate in Little Bayside Park, Manly, twice a month rather than the existing once a month. The petitioners point out that established businesses in Wynnum and Manly pay high rent and other charges and have their businesses undermined by market operators. The petitioners are concerned about businesses in Wynnum Central and Manly and even Wynnum Plaza being forced out of business by the Jan Power Markets. They are worried about the potential loss of local jobs. The petitioners point out that there was no consultation with the wider business community before the decision was made to increase the frequency of the markets.
The petitioners call upon the Brisbane City Council to restrict the Jan Power Markets to one morning per month as it has been in the past.
