Residents draw to the attention of Council the current traffic light system in Brisbane. There doesn't seem to be a system; its just one big muddle. I find that on average, you can only catch one to four green lights at one time on all major roads and arterials. At one point in particular, along Mains Rd in Robertson and MacGregor, one car turning on to Mains Road from Cervantes Street can trigger the lights to turn red and stop the flow of peak hour traffic who have just taken off from corner of Kessels and Main Roads traffic lights!! How Frustrating !!!
Your petitioners therefore request that Council come up with a better traffic light system and this would reduce the need for all these new toll tunnels.
Your petition has been investigated and it was considered by Council at its meeting held on 14 June 2016. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the information below.
Council has implemented the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS), a world class traffic signals control system which is adaptive to traffic demand and assists in reducing delays by varying green times with actual traffic demand. Through the Brisbane Metropolitan Traffic Management Centre (BMTMC), Council also actively monitors major road corridors and adjusts signal times to minimise the impacts on traffic during crashes and other incidents.
