We request that the Lord Mayor, as a matter of urgency, install either traffic lights or a pedestrian crossing or a pedestrian refuge in Montague Road, in the vicinity of Victoria Street so pedestrians can cross the road more safely. The residential population in this area is growing very rapidly and many wish to use the CityGlider service but crossing Montague Road is too dangerous to get to or from the bus stops. There are shops and supermarkets along Montague Road and crossing the road to walk to them is hazardous especially when carrying purchases. It is approximately 1.5 kilometres between Orleigh Street and Jane Street and there is no pedestrian crossing facility along this stretch of road. This is not acceptable for an Active and Healthy City.
We request a review of the traffic volume at this location and recommendation for installation of suitable safe pedestrian movement.
