Residents draw to the attention of the Brisbane City Council the need to establish a leash-free dog swimming area at the eastern end of Davenport Drive, Manly.
Your petitioners therefore request that the existing informal facility, which has provided an excellent outlet for dogs and their owners for many years, be formalised.
Petition Reference: CA17/905681
Thank you for your petition requesting Council to establish a dog off-leash swimming area at the end of Davenport Drive, Manly.
Council has completed an investigation and considered your request. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the following information.
The proposed dog off-leash swimming area is not within Council’s jurisdiction and is not located within a Council owned or controlled park. The area contains habitat for significant migratory shorebird species and in addition, a designated dog off-leash area in the requested location would be incompatible with the significant ecological and habitat values attributed to Moreton Bay as a Ramsar wetland. Therefore, the request for an off-leash swimming area cannot be supported at this location.
Thank you for raising this matter.
