Residents draw to the attention of Council a request to upgrade the existing off-leash area at Fairfield Park, Cameron Street, Fairfield. The park is very popular with local dog owners, however during autumn and winter months most dog owners are unable to use the park after work, due to a complete lack of lighting in the off-leash area. Due to the number of large trees, current street lighting and park lighting does not provide any illumination to the off-leash area. Provision of this lighting will also help make the park safer for the use of all local residents during periods of low light.
Your petitioners therefore request that appropriate timed lighting be installed to enable local dog owners to safely use the off-leash area at Fairfield Park, during the autumn and winter months.
Your petition has been investigated and it was considered by Council at its meeting held on 3 September 2013. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the information below.
The provision of lighting is considered to be consistent with items already installed in other dog off-leash facilities across the city. Lighting infrastructure installed in off-leash facilities is placed on timers, and hours of operation align with noise regulations. Installation is also considerate of potential impacts upon properties adjacent to these facilities.
It is recommended that the request to install lighting in Fairfield Park is supported. The funds to undertake these works will be sought through future budget or Ward Footpath and Parks Trust Fund submissions.
